Jack Dowdy, 86, of Pitts, Ga., died, Saturday, March 12, 2011, in the UPAC Nursing Center in Moultrie. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, March 15, in the Pitts Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Faircloth, the Rev. Clint Sullens and the Rev. Bill Kent will officiate. Interment will be in the Pitts Cemetery. He was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Irwinville, Ga. He was son of the late James S. Dowdy and Elsie Mitchell Dowdy. He was a Baptist minister, pastoring Cannonville Baptist Church, Abbeville; Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Cordele; Oakdale Baptist Church, Moultrie; Union Baptist Church, Pitts; Sharon Baptist Church, Rhine; and Pitts Baptist Church, Pitts. After retirement, he served as interim pastor of several churches. He was a member of the Pitts Baptist Church, the Men’s Adult Sunday School Class and Rochelle Masonic Lodge No. 190. He served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Lucille C. Dowdy. Survivors include daughters, Jackie Sumner and husband Jackie of Norman Park and Vickie Parker and husband Mike of Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, before the service in the church. Frazier & Son Funeral Home in Rochelle, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
